Lexington, KY - In an effort to make Lexington more walkable and bike-friendly, May has been deemed “Bike Lexington” month for several years now, with dozens of bike-friendly activities planned by the LFUCG, Downtown Lexington Corporation and local bicycle shops under the Bike Lexington umbrella.
Activities planned include Saturday bike clinics at Pedal Power Bike Shop (the monthlong event’s presenting sponsor); a progressive bike dinner; Thursday Night Live drink vouchers for bike commuters; a bike camping trip at the Kentucky Horse Park; “Traffic 201” classes at the YMCA and more.
The commuter bike challenge, which engages local businesses into a friendly competition of bicycle commuting, will be held throughout the month. Businesses can register online. Additional prizes will be awarded throughout the month as well.
The festivities have been extended into the month of June, with the annual Family Fun Ride taking place on June 2, where thousands of cyclists reclaim the streets on a police-escorted 8-mile ride that’s appropriate for all ages and cycling levels. This year’s ride as a new route. Registration begins at 8 a.m. At the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza with the ride beginning promptly at 10 a.m.
