Skateboarding personalities, events and competitions, as well as food, music, and other events, are planned for Cosmic Colors' Invasion 2013 on June 21. This is the company's ninth annual Go Skateboarding Day celebration.
Members of the Ipath skate team will be making an appearance as part of their last stop on the Midwest leg of their Search and Enjoy Taco Tour. Shuriken Shannon, Brendan Keaveny, Jon Cosentino, and Darius "Woogie" Jackson will be giving out free tacos as well as judging the advanced level competition and putting on a skate demo.
“Invasion has become one of the longest running and attended annual Go Skateboarding Day events, and we're stoked on the support we get every year," Cosmic owner, Alan Procter, said.
Not just a skate competition, Invasion hosts a live music stage featuring talent from Kentucky and surrounding states. Local food vendors Mr. Gyros and Big J's BBQ will be selling their wares.
A dunk tank will be set up where participants can dunk Procter, and a portion of the proceeds will go to Friends for Skateparks, a local non-profit that aims to help develop new skate parks and improve existing ones in Lexington-Fayette County.
The competition portion of Invasion is offered in Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels and is done in Jam style. Groups of skaters will compete in the park at the same time. The top skaters from each round will go to the finals round of their competition level. The top three skaters in each category will be awarded prizes.
Invasion is free to the public to attend. Registration and music begins at noon. There is a $5 entry fee to those wanting to enter the competition. For more information about the event, visit www.cosmicrocks.com/invasion2013.
