A ribbon-cutting ceremony has been scheduled for the PiggyBank bus shelter, which should be completed in October.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony has been scheduled for the new PiggyBank Bus Shelter on Euclid Avenue for 1 p.m. Oct. 24, with festivities planned from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Installation of the forthcoming bus stop began in September, which saw the pouring of the concrete pad and the installation of the frame of the whimsical shelter. The stop is being installed in the right of way of the Republic Bank on Euclid Avenue.
The seats and glass panels for the back, roof and sides, should begin to be installed in October, according to Kate Savage, who has organized the project on behalf of the Columbia Heights Neighborhood Association for nearly two years.
The project has been a partnership between the neighborhood association, Art-in-Motion, Republic Bank, Lextran and over 150 Kickstarter donors who contributed over $10,000 toward the project.
The bus stop was built by Josh Marrillia of Marillia Design and Construction. Designs were provided by Patrick Morgan, a Lexington native who received his masters in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania this past May.
