piggybankstop
The redwood bench has enough room for eight riders waiting for the bus.
Installation of the new PiggyBank Bus Shelter on Euclid Avenue was finished earlier in the week and a ribbon-cutting ceremony has been planned for 1 p.m. Oct. 24.
Festivities are planned from 11:30 − 2:30 p.m. in the Republic Bank parking lot adjacent to the shelter. The stop was installed in the right of way of the Republic Bank on Euclid Avenue. Bus service to the stop will begin on Friday.
The project has been a partnership between the neighborhood association, Art-in-Motion, Republic Bank, Lextran and over 150 Kickstarter donors who contributed over $10,000 toward the project.
The bus stop was built by Josh Marrillia of Marillia Design and Construction. Designs were provided by Patrick Morgan, a Lexington native who received his masters in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania this past May.
Installation began in September, which saw the pouring of the concrete pad and putting up the frame of the whimsical shelter.
