Lexington, KY – Ramsey’s Diner will serve its final meal in its original location Monday before moving the restaurant off Nicholasville Road on Zandale.
A call to Ramsey’s business office has not been returned. But the restaurant at High Street and Woodland Avenue was abuzz early Saturday afternoon with the news that what has become a landmark during its 23 years near the University of Kentucky campus and downtown Lexington would be shutting its doors in less than 72 hours.
None of the staff was willing to respond to a reporter’s questions.
Last year work was completed on the longtime Ramsey’s office across Woodland from the restaurant to allow for the company’s pie business, Missy’s Pies, to relocate into the building owned by Tamram LLC, registered to Ramsey’s owner Robert Ramsey and his wife, Tamela.
Missy’s vacated space was adjacent to Ramsey’s Diner in a separate but connected building. Both of those buildings are owned by William Wassmer, owner of Wassmer Properties.
When reached for comment, Wassmer said he was “not at liberty to discuss” the departure of his longtime tenant from buildings he’s owned since 1981 and 1982, according the Fayette PVA website.

The space for a new Ramsey's location is under construction at 151 W. Zandale Dr.
After the last day of serving Monday, staff will assist in the relocation of the restaurant to a building currently under construction at 151 West Zandale Drive, a cul-de-sac directly adjacent to Nicholasville Road. Ramsey’s will be located at the end of a shopping center being developed by Lexington’s NAI Issac. Al Issac, president of NAI Issac, was unable to be reached for comment. Customers were told the new location should be open sometime in February.
Since opening at the corner of High and Woodland in1989, Ramsey’s has added restaurants around Lexington. The company has locations at Tates Creek Centre, on Helmsdale off Man O’ War Boulevard in Andover and on Harrodsburg Road near the Jessamine County line.
