On Sunday, May 4, the YMCA of Central Kentucky will be hosting its annual Healthy Kids Day, a free community event that is part of YMCA’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of children and their families.
The event will take place on UK’s campus and will feature games, arts and crafts, and a special 5k walk on the indoor track at the Nutter Field House.
Healthy Kids Day, which is celebrated at nearly 1,600 Y’s across the country, aims to teach children how to remain active and learning during the summer months.
“One in three U.S. children is obese,” said David Martorano, President and CEO of the YMCA of Central Kentucky. “This statistic, coupled with the fact that once summer hits, children will be more idle, demonstrates why it’s important to help families develop healthy habits now. As part of the Y’s commitment to healthy living, our goal is to improve the health and well-being of kids and inspire habits they can continue into adulthood.”
The May 4th event will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by the 5K indoor run/walk at 3. It will take place at the Nutter Field House on UK’s campus, and is free and open to the general public. Highlights of the event include games, crafts, fitness activities, inflatables, face painting, and more.
