Kenwick’s neighborhood Community Center, which aims to “foster social engagement between neighbors of all ages,” will host a variety of events this month, starting off with a Community Valentine’s Day party on Feb. 13 from 5-7 p.m. Attendees can expect sugary treats and Bingo with prizes for the winners.
Other upcoming events include a series of free drums lessons with instructor Oba Wilson on Wednesday nights from Feb. 18-March 11, 5-6 p.m.; a basketball Free Throw Shooting Competition for kids 5-10 (with prizes for various age levels) on February 27 from 6-7 p.m.; and a Spring Flea Market on Saturday, March 7 from 8 a.m- 4 p.m. According to Kenwick Center recreation supervisor, Stephanie Bowling, the event will feature lots of bargains.
“The vendors will sell everything from clothes, toys, household items, books, tupperware, etc.” Bowling said. To reserve a table for $7.00, stop by the Kenwick Center, which is located at 313 Owsley, or call (859) 266-6405 after 3 p.m.
Aside from these new events, the Kenwick Community Center also offers a number of weekly fitness classes, beginning Monday nights with the Strolling for Stride exercise program, geared toward parents with babies in strollers, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Karate classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday night Karate from 7:30-9 p.m. and are open to anyone over the age of 14. The very popular (and free) weekly Zumba lessons continue on Wednesday nights from 6-7 p.m; everyone is welcome.
This summer, the Kenwick Neighborhood Association will host its biannual Bungalow Tour, highlighting the architectural style for which the area is celebrated. Dates are expected to be announced soon.
