Ashland Terrace Announces "Escape to Chevy Chase" Raffle Drawing

Ashland Terrace, a small, non-profit retirement home for women over 65, will honor its Mother’s Day tradition with an Escape to Chevy Chase raffle drawing. The home’s 35 residents – often referred to as a senior sorority house – work hard every year to put together this fundraiser.

This tradition began in 2008 when the women of Ashland Terrace explored the history of the organization in a little more depth. An article from 1930 (shown below) revealed a Mother’s Day fundraiser involving donations from churches and downtown hotels in Lexington. The event –which occurred while the organization was called "Old Ladies Home" and located on High Street – inspired the women of Ashland Terrace to showcase a similar fundraising event every year since then.

This year, a total of 34 businesses in the Chevy Chase area – including Athenian Grill, Pet Wants, Puccini’s, Donut Days and many more – have donated over $2,500 in gift certificates and other prizes for the Mother’s Day Raffle. The lot will be divided into three prize packages, with one $10 ticket allowing 3 chances to win. Raffle tickets can be purchased at

Ashland Terrace, Pet Wants, Chevy Chase Hardware, Morris Book Shop, Country Club Prep, Chevy Chase Animal Clinic, Salt Box, Wheelers, Republic Bank, and other Chevy Chase businesses.

All funds raised will be used for building maintenance of Ashland Terrace, which maintains a community cutting garden full of flowers and herbs.

The Escape to Chevy Chase drawing will take place on May 7 at 12:30 p.m.
