The Lexington Fire Department, by order of the Lexington Fire Marshal, has issued an open burning ban for Fayette County until 7 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1st.
This ban is being issued in response to a National Weather Advisory recommendation which states, “A dry cold front is crossing the area and producing gusty, West winds up to 25 MPH. In addition to the gusty winds, relative humidity values across the area are dropping to around 30 per cent. This is creating dangerous fire weather conditions.”
According to a press release issued by the city's Division of Fire and Emergency Services, citizens should avoid setting any fire outdoors until after the ban expires. This includes refuse, cooking and construction debris fires. All open burn permits are suspended for the duration of the ban.
The ban applies to all residents and businesses in Fayette County, including those in rural and urban areas.
