Andrea Sims and Krim Boughalem, the owners of Table Three Ten and National Boulangerie, have expanded their National Provisions operation yet again with its fourth phase: the opening of a grocery in the adjoining space on the corner of Walton and National avenues.
Although much bigger, the new grocery bears a marked resemblance to Wine + Market, the neighborhood grocery that Sims and Boughalem launched on Jefferson Street and sold prior to their move to the blossoming National Avenue corridor.
Marble countertops and chalkboard signage lend a clean, industrial charm to the bright, and open grocery space, which includes a cheesemonger counter with extensive imported and domestic selections; a charcuterie offering a variety of cold cuts and paté; a butcher shop; and eventually, a fish and oyster bar. The grocery’s traiteur will also offer customers both hot and cold, ready-to-go prepared food options.
The emphasis is on quality over quantity, with product offerings that cater to the more discriminating tastes of today’s foodie culture with European style. The choice of fresh produce extends beyond the standard fare of potatoes and onions to include blood oranges, fennel, Bosc pears, fresh herbs and baby mixed-color carrots. A bakery display case presents a wide variety of tarts, pies, eclairs and other sweet delicacies.
The shop also stocks pantry staples such as coffees, teas and preserves, as well as an assortment of pastas, imported mustards, vinegars, oils and spreads. Flours, brans, and grits from Weisenberger Mills are also available for purchase.
The grocery is the most recent addition to the National Provisions complex, which includes National Beer Hall beer garden and National Brasserie restaurant, as well as the National Boulangerie bakery and coffee shop.
National Provisions is located at 264 Walton Avenue and can be reached by phone at (859)303-4763.
