The summer-long reconstruction and realignment project happening on Alumni Road along the south side of the University of Kentucky campus is coming to a close, with plans to re-open the road in time for the August 17 student move-in. The roadway, which has been closed to through traffic from Nicholasville to Tates Creek Roads during construction in recent months, will include several new features to move traffic more safely and efficiently, including roundabouts replacing stop signs at College Way and University Drive, bicycle lanes and a multi-use trail.
Between 12,200 and 18,300 vehicles per day use some portion of Alumni Drive between Nicholasville Road and Tates Creek Road. The overall project, which cost around $5 million, is expected to fully completed in time for the beginning of UK football season on Sept. 1.
