2017 World Hardcourt Bike Polo Championship
Kentucky for Kentucky presents the 2017 Workd Hardcourt Bike Polo Championship here in Lexington, Kentucky. Bike polo is a growing sport played on bikes, with teams of 3 trying to score goal in their opponents net on either ends of the court. This fast-paced, fun-to-watch contact sport incorporates a number of hockey rules, and requires players to be highly skilled at riding a bike while using a mallet to control the ball. The best players from around the world will travel to compete right here in Lexington.
The management of the event is a joint project of Lexington Bike Polo and the North American Bike Polo Association, who will also certify the results.
The tournament has multiple phases.Daily events begin at 9:00am each day and conclude around 9:00pm each night.
Oct 3, Wild Card Phase: 12 teams compete for the final three spots in the WHBPC Main Event.
Oct 4-5 , Main Event Phase I: 27 teams compete in placement matches.
Oct 6, Main Event Phase II: 18 remaining teams compete in placement matches.
Oct 7, Main Event Phase III: 12 remaining teams compete to enter an 8 team single elimination bracket.
Phase II & III will be produced and directed by Commonwealth Cable Advertising Inc and broadcast live on YouTube on Oct 6-7.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for Oct 3 at 7 p.m. upon the conclusion of the Wild Card event. Representatives from the local Lexington community along with global members of the bike polo community will gather at the courts at Coolavin Park for a brief welcome and greeting.
All WHBPC events at Coolavin Park are open to the public with free admission, but wristbands will be sold which will get special deals at local restaurants and bars for additional WHBPC activities during the week.
