When We Were 36: An Immersive Gallery Event
Lexington Art League 209 Castlewood Dr., Lexington, Kentucky 40505
This event is the official public debut of SOULED: a lifelong, time-based artistic project from artist ATB, that foregrounds context as art.
ATB releases WAVES of 12 identical WORKS, sold consecutively, one at a time, for up to 12 days. Each time a WORK sells, the next doubles in value, creating a range of acquisition prices from a few dollars in the beginning to thousands by the end. Any unsold WORKS remaining after the 12 days will be destroyed in the performance of a WAKE.
"We don’t value things for what they are. We value them for what they mean,” ATB explains. “And meaning is made with context. There is no greater context for us than time: a finite window with an indefinite end.”
A special event at the Lexington Art League's Loudoun House called WHEN WE WERE 36 will feature the first three WAVES from SOULED (totalling 36 WORKS) in immersive viewing galleries. The evening will conclude with the live performance of a WAKE under the night sky.
Following the event, at midnight, the first WORK from WAVE 1 will be made available for one dollar at www.souled.art. If all 12 WORKS are acquired within 12 days, the final WORK will be valued at $2,048.
Admission to this immersive art experience is free to the public. Suggested attire is black and white (casual, dress, or formal wear). A cash bar will be available. Photography is prohibited and phones discouraged to enhance the experience.
