"Baseball Behind Barbed Wire" (2023) Film Screening
Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center 141 East Main Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40507
"Baseball Behind Barbed Wire" (2023) is a film that paints the story of Japanese American incarceration during World War II through the lens of baseball. Stripped of their constitutional rights, their homes, businesses, and dignity, 120,000 Japanese Americans were forced into dusty desolate camps, surrounded by armed guards and barbed wire. Ironically, it was the All-American pastime of baseball that saved their sanity.
After the show, stay for a live Q&A with the director/producer, Yuriko Gamo Romer, for a special conversation touching on baseball, citizenship, integration, and hope.
The Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center in Lexington is delighted to host three days of Japan-related events from August 20 th , centered on a national meeting of Japan-America Societies from across America. A group of 200 cultural exchange leaders and business and government representatives, championed locally by the Japan-America Society of Kentucky (JASK), will hold their by-invitation gathering at the recently enhanced and expanded Center.
