Gallery Hop reception: The Common Wealth of Kentucky Project Exhibition

An inspiring art and culture exhibit celebrates the richness of Kentucky and the common humanity of the people who call it home. The portraits are an impression of Kentuckians as they sat and told their stories. Their voices can also be heard by pointing your smart phone camera at the QR code next to each art work.
The culmination of a year-long project where artist Kelly Brewer, writer and digital storyteller Beth Pride, and advocate Jill Johnson traveled Kentucky painting and interviewing people from all walks of life is a powerful, multi-sensory experience. The exhibit will be open to the public from August 22-October 10, with art and history enthusiasts invited to visit LexArts Gallery in downtown Lexington to connect with a community of 70 portraits, read a short narrative about the subjects' lives, hear their voices linked through QR scan technology, and see the places where they live.
A portion of the proceeds from the super silent auction of the portraits and the sale of Kentucky life paintings will benefit the Jo B. Robertson Charitable Foundation, helping Kentuckians in need.
A beautiful 11x11 hardbound book will chronicle the project experience with portraits and Kentucky life scenes, longer narrative sections, and QR links to hear part of their stories in their own voice and words.
