An Evening with Ebony G. Patterson. Oct. 23rd.  UK’s Gaines Center for the Humanities will host world-renowned multi-media artist and Macarthur Fellow Ebony G. Patterson at this year’s Bale Boone Symposium, an annual event spotlighting distinguished artists and public intellectuals since 1998. Patterson’s pieces appear in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art, The National Gallery of Jamaica, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, and many more. Of her work, the Hales Gallery in New York/London writes: “Patterson’s expansive practice addresses visibility and invisibility, through explorations of class, race, gender, youth culture, pageantry and acts of violence in the context of ‘postcolonial’ spaces. With the strong sensibility of a painter, Patterson works across multiple media - including tapestry, photography, video, sculpture, drawing and installation - united by her consistent visual language and intention. Each work is intricately embellished and densely layered, in order to draw the viewer closer and to question how we engage in the act of looking.” Patterson will be in conversation with the Director of the University of Kentucky Art Museum, Stuart Horodner.
