The Girl Project 2018 shakes up the Lucille Little Theatre at Transylvania University August 9-12 with timely new pieces taking on school violence, youth activism, and women's empowerment. The Girl Project 2018 has worked alongside powerhouse guest artists to channel their insights on social justice into unique pieces in movement, comedy, spoken word, and more. Unlike previous years, The Girl Project 2018 will be including live original music in their performance. As always, we encourages the audience to join the girls' journey of healing through humor, play, emotions, sociological analysis, and sisterhood.
Amanda Gookin, who founded The Forward Music Project, will perform on opening night, August 9. Amanda also helped set a piece with the girls, which will be performed all show dates. Lexington singer songwriter, Danae Winters, will be performing an original song during a movement piece performed by the girls during all four shows.
This year's performance was created by the girls through performing arts workshops with Amanda Gookin, Danae Winters, Roger Ainslie, Ellen Hagan, Jaqui Linder, and the women of The Girl Project. This performance is relevant to all ages and walks of life and is rated PG-13.
