
Harry Dean Stanton Fest. July 11-13.
This annual festival pays tribute to the prolific character actor, singer and songwriter Harry Dean Stanton, a native of Kentucky who appeared in nearly 200 films and television episodes over his illustrious six-decade career.
This year’s special events include a cemetery screening of “The Straight Story” at Harry Dean Stanton's final resting place, Bluegrass Memorial Gardens (July 11).
On July 12, The Farish Theatre will host screenings of “Zandy’s Bride” (12:30 p.m.) and “Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid” (2:45 p.m.), followed that evening by a reunion show featuring The Call, a band that Stanton became close with in the 1980s.
On July 13, The Farish Theater will host a screening of “Young Doctors in Love” (1:30 p.m.), followed by a screening of the 1992 short film "Cruise Control" at 3 p.m. and a book signing by director Matt Palmeiri and Ed Begley, a proflific actor in his own right who Stanton's the early 1970's and remained a close friend through the end of Stanton's life. That evening, the Kentucky Theatre will host a screening of "Lucky" preceded by a Q&A with Begley.

Actor Ed Begley Jr., who has appeared in over 100 films, met Stanton at The Troubadour in 1972. The two remained close friends until the end of Stanton's life.
