The Singletary Center and WRFL present the first event in SCFA's new Expansive Sounds Series: Joseph Allred & Mute Duo

Joseph Allred – In a world of John Faheys, Joseph Allred is a Robbie Basho. Rooted in Appalachian folklore, mystic spirituality, and a love for guitar soli, Allred’s music bears a sincerity rarely matched in the popular arts. A deft fingerstyle guitarist on 6-string, 12-string, and banjo, Allred has released somewhere in the realm of 22 albums, cassettes, and CD’s featuring his unique voice, sometimes over the droning sounds of the harmonium, creating a sound that is both laid bare and simultaneously otherworldly. Allred will be releasing his newest album, “New Jerusalem,” at this show.

Mute Duo – Mute Duo is the pair of pedal steel player Sam Wagster and percussionist Skyler Rowe. The Chicago duo’s sound ranges from the wide-open skies of Ambient Country to propulsive, climactic catharsis. Both experimental and intentional, Mute Duo revels in the contrasts that make their music dynamic and compelling.
