Summerfest: ‘As You Like It’
After 20 years away, Shakespeare will return this summer to Woodland Park. Kentucky Conservatory Theatre announced earlier this year that they will return the annual summer theater festival to its original home, after two decades of utilizing other outdoor venues including the Arboretum and Moondance Amphitheater.
Summerfest presented its first performance in 2007, as an offshoot of the organization Lexington Shakespeare Festival, which presented a blend of Shakespeare and American theater classics each summer from 1982-2006 before ceasing operations in 2006.
In celebration of the momentous return back to Woodland Park, KCT will resurrect the Shakespeare classic that LSF presented in its inaugural year, “As You Like It,” as well as the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stirring musical “Jesus Christ Superstar,” which was last presented by LSF to record crowds in 2004.
