Voices Amplified: What the Constitution Means to Me

Voices Amplified with support from the Kentucky Foundation for Women will present What The Constitution Means To Me at The Downtown Lexington Library's Farrish Theatre—followed by a weekend of performances as part of a collaboration with Appalachian Shakespeare at Eastern Kentucky University. 

Filled with humor and history, The award-winning 2019 Tony Award nominee and winner New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award, What The Constitution Means To Me is Playwright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play that breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. 

As a 15-year-old, Heidi Schreck won debate competitions defending the Constitution across the country. As an adult, she resurrects her teenage self to investigate its profound effect on four generations of women in her family. This exhilarating show culminates in a live debate with an actual teen, allowing audiences to weigh in on the Constitution's impact on our daily lives.

What The Constitution Means To Me is directed by Laurie Genet Preston and features Vanessa Becker Weig as Heidi with Patrick Lee Lucas as Mike/Legionnaire and Cricket Brown as the Debator.

DISCLAIMER: What the Constitution Means to Me features personal stories and experiences from the playwright, Heidi Schreck, which are intertwined with broader political themes. These themes include gender-based domestic violence, reproductive rights, and systemic inequalities. It is recommended for ages 14 and up.
