WRFL and Lexington Film League present a screening of “Our Heavenly Bodies” with Live Performance by Coupler
The Lexington Film League and WRFL are teaming up to present a free screening of the 1925 German science fiction film “Our Heavenly Bodies,” by filmmaker Hans Walter Kornblum, with a new musical score performed live by the Nashville/Chicago experimental electronic group Coupler.
The show is part of a film/performance tour that includes Winston-Salem, Louisville, Columbus, Detroit and Philadelphia, following sold-out performances in Nashville last year that earned a “Best Outdoor Film Screening” designation in that city’s alternative newsweekly, the Nashville Scene.
According to a press release, “In 1925, German director Hanns Walter Kornblum set out to create a film unlike any that had come before. His aim was a film that would serve as both a summation of all the astronomical knowledge available at the time and a dreamy investigation of what wonders might await humanity at the advent of space travel. With the help of 15 special effects technicians and nine cameramen, Kornblum’s film is a technical marvel, one that revels in the beauty and mysteries of the universe, reminiscent of Carl Sagan’s COSMOS more than 50 years later.”
