Lexington, KY - My old friend Carroll Simcox - priest, writer, and editor - wrote "Notes to the Overworld," short letters to people who had passed beyond this life. His work inspired me to write this letter to St. Thomas Becket, martyred Archbishop of Canterbury.
Dear Thomas:
We're approaching Easter, and there's something I want to say about Easter and a candle. My wife and I visited Canterbury and your cathedral a few months ago. Did you know there's a pub named The Thomas Becket? It was our favorite. There's another pub nearby called The Bishop's Finger. We're not sure why, but the image on the sign looks a lot like Desmond Tutu, who was Archbishop of Cape Town.
