Volunteers are needed for the 21st annual Kentucky River Clean Sweep on June 16. Participants will collect trash and debris along 12 miles of the Kentucky River in Fayette County.
The river cleanup is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. from the Clays Ferry Boat Dock to the Valley View Ferry dock. Volunteers should gather at the Clays Ferry Boat Dock off KY 25 under the I-75 overpass.
Volunteers will receive free breakfast, free lunch, a t-shirt and a chance to win raffle prizes from local businesses. Trash bags, gloves, some life vests and poles to snag litter will also be provided. Volunteers should wear sturdy clothing, boots or close-toed shoes and life vests to clean up the river.
At least a dozen or more boats are needed to transport the volunteers, who have numbered 80 or more during past cleanups. If you are bringing a boat or canoe, please note that when you register.
