Skateboarding enthusiasts, city officials and Cricket Wireless representatives met at Kirklevington Park on Monday for the official opening of a new skateboarding facility.
Dubbed the Cricket Wireless Skate Spot, the new facility, the first of its kind in Lexington, features a variety of "street" elements for skateboarders, instead of ramps and other typical obstacles.
Parks & Recreation maintenance crews removed a deteriorated asphalt pad to make way for a new concrete pad suitable for skating. Cricket Wireless donated $15,000 for skate equipment, including "skate-able benches, jersey barrier, grinding rail, concrete boxes and a variety of other obstacles for both beginners and more advanced skaters," according to a press release.
