She's currently the most feted woman in the blues world and actually had a coronation where she was crowned and declared 'Queen of the Blues' at the Chicago Blues Festival in 2011. Shemekia earned her crown with a series of high-quality recordings and an unrelenting tour schedule including a memorable performance at the White House in front of an audience that included the President of the United States, sharing the bill with Buddy Guy, Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, B.B. King and other greats. Her latest is '33 1/3' on Telarc International."
WRFL's Outisde the Spotlight presents Frode Gjerstad Trio Mecca, 958 Manchester St.From the venue website: "The Yellow Dog Jazz Band offers a unique flavor of American Dixieland "traditional" jazz from the 20's in New Orleans, heard these days only on the streets of New Orleans itself. The band is a Dixieland revivalist group, keeping the spirit of Dixieland alive through the generations since its birth. Complete with the King Oliver Creole style of two trumpets, right down to the banjo in the rhythm section, the Yellow Dogs present the real feel of traditional New Orleans jazz."
