Inspired by LBX Team Pinkie Linkie, the Tates Creek High School dance team presented Eileen Smyth, mission director of Susan G. Komen for the Cure Lexington, with a check for $407 during halftime of the Dec. 11 home basketball game, according to a press release.
Pinkie Linkie, which formed as part of the Race for the Cure this past summer, participated in various community events with the pink Link-Belt Excavator to raise breast cancer awareness. After seeing the display, the school’s dance team decided to donate all of the tips collected while working the University of Kentucky’s basketball concessions.
“Several members of our team family have been directly affected or know someone that has been affected by breast cancer. Our hope is that this donation will advance the work of the foundation,” said Sandy Copher, president of the dance team’s booster club.
The dance team members serve as ambassadors for Tates Creek High School, striving to exemplify outstanding character and sportsmanship. The team is coached by Janet Carrier Brock, who was on the UK dance team.
“This type of community involvement is what it is all about,” said Jennifer Bricking, executive director of Komen Lexington. “When we sat around the table and thought about how Pinkie Linkie could make an impact, it’s exactly this type of inspiration that can make a real difference.”
