Thousands of visitors came out for the inaugural Crave Lexington Food + Music Festival the weekend of Sept. 21 - 22 to taste made-from-scratch food from local vendors, watch savvy kitchen personalities give invaluable cooking demonstrations, listen to a diverse lineup of bands and musicians with ties to Lexington, and enjoy the surprisingly agreeable sunny weather.
Over two dozen vendors set up over the weekend at the grounds of the MoonDance at Midnight Pass amphitheater in Beaumont Circle, representing a wide swath of culinary styles, from Greek to West African to Thai to Cajun. Over a dozen musical acts performed at the main stage, and just like the cuisine, the genres were just as sundry, with everything from blues and rock to Bollywood and gospel coming from the speakers.
The event, a production of this magazine’s parent company, Smiley Pete Publishing, was organized to be a catch-all venue where guests could be exposed to artists and vendors they may not have had the prior pleasure of experiencing. Organizers are already planning for the next festival in 2014, and a number of “pop up” events will start to appear in the spring as a lead up to the second annual Crave Lexington.
