For Chef Ken Lawson at Le Deauville restaurant, the journey to Executive Chef has been as much an apprenticeship as a typical career. Lawson has been at Le Deauville since before the ownership of the restaurant changed about five years ago. In fact the Chicago native, who came to the University of Kentucky to study, has been "all over the restaurant scene in Lexington. It's a very small world."
The menu at Le Deauville is traditionally French and is a collaboration between Chef Lawson and the owner, Marc Puil. But just because its culinary roots are so exposed doesn't mean the menu is staid. Each week Puil and Lawson purchase local produce to include in the selections and the menu changes at least three times per year according to the seasons.
Le Deauville also features a special summer dish every Tuesday: all you can eat mussels and fries dinner for $14.50.
What better way to finish an evening than with a bit of sweet? A perfect selection for a summer-and a classic French favorite-is chocolate mousse.
