University of Kentucky Professor Joseph Chappell was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world's largest general scientific society, serving 10 million people and 262 affiliated societies and academies of sciences. Fellows are nominated by their peers and elected by the association's council based on their distinguished scientific contributions. Chappell, a plant physiologist in the UK College of Agriculture, is one of 531 newly elected Fellows from the association's 24 scientific sections.
Stephen R. Allen, a CPA financial planning expert with Ray, Foley, Hensley, & Company, PLLC in Lexington, has been awarded the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) Credential by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
David McNear, an assistant professor in the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers during a recent ceremony at the White House. The award is given to scientists who are within five years of receiving their doctorates and demonstrate great potential for leadership in their field of study. McNear was one of three award recipients from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Tim Murphy, AIA, LEED AP, a principal with Murphy + Graves Architects, has been named as a "Citizen Architect" by the American Institute of Architects for his service to the Kentucky School Facilities Evaluation Task Force. Murphy is one of 850 architects honored nationwide for community service.
