Do you have a favorite work of art?
Even though I enjoy art, I’m ashamed to say I don’t have the appreciation I should have of the different art styles or art history. I was a music major my first year at UK, and I always drifted towards music appreciation courses, instead of art. So, if I may take the liberty of altering your question a little, if you had asked me if I have a favorite composer, the answer is Claude Debussy. When I sit down at a piano, I still attempt to play Debussy's Two Arabesques, which I played for my senior recital in high school. Somehow, it's a lot more difficult now!
How do you spend a perfect day off?
A weekend with nothing on the agenda is a dream weekend for us. I enjoy just taking it easy around the house, whether it means spending time in the kitchen, working on projects in the yard, reading... just pleasant, family time.
What is the best book you have read lately?
I loved John Grisham's 'Calico Joe' and couldn't wait to give it to my husband for Father's Day. I also really enjoyed 'Unbroken' by Laura Hillenbrand. And the recent surprise book was ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ by Seth Grahame-Smith. I thought I wouldn’t make it past the first few chapters, but I have to admit, I enjoyed it.
What is a favorite memory from college?
I have many wonderful memories of my days at UK. I loved every minute of it and made great friends. When we get together, we still laugh about the time we found old roller skates in the basement of the Chi Omega sorority house. Every spring, we pulled those out on the first really pretty sunny day and skated through campus. It was like shouting to the world that we'd survived another winter, and spring had arrived. People probably thought we were crazy, and maybe we were!
