Lexington, KY - Lexmark has purchased Acuo Technologies, LLC, a Minneapolis-based company that specializes in streamlining healthcare imaging on to one system.
Acuo will work under the auspices of Perceptive Software, another software based company owned by the Lexington-based printer company. With this acquisition, Lexmark's Perceptive Software becomes the only vendor to own this technology.
“This is a nice, natural step to enhance the capabilities of Perceptive for the clinical content management space in healthcare, to be able to manage more types of content,” said Ken Woodruff, Lexmark’s industry director in healthcare.
“This gives us really a unique position in terms of breadth of capability,” he said. “In healthcare IT it’s all about connecting clinicians easily with all the information they need to provide care and today it can be pretty difficult to get access to all the various information because it tends to exist in multiple places.”
But what is known as a Vender Neutral Archive can change that, which is what lead to the cash purchase of Acuo for around $45 million. With a Vender Neutral Archive, all images like X-Rays, CT-Scans and MRIs will be held in and accessible from the same system.
Acuo will hold maintain its Minnesota headquarters and work under Perceptive, which Lexmark purchased in 2010 and is based out of suburban Kansas City.
