A mock up for the Pay it Forward Cocoa Porter can West Sixth Brewing submitted to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau.
Lexington, KY – West Sixth Brewing announced yesterday a fourth year-round canned beer, but this one, the Pay it Forward Cocoa Porter, has a charitable spin.
"We're very excited to announce that this fall, we will begin canning one of our most requested beers: the Pay it Forward Cocoa Porter," said West Sixth founder Brady Barlow of the beer that will contribute $.50 of every six-pack to an area nonprofit.
The beer is an American robust porter brewed with organic, direct-trade cocoa nibs, dominated by roasty malts and a strong aroma of chocolate, according to West Sixth.
The Pay it Forward Cocoa Porter debuted at West Sixth in 2012 for the launch of the GoodGiving Guide put on by the Blue Grass Community Foundation and Smiley Pete Publishing. The GoodGiving Guide raised over 1.5 million for local non-profits in 2013, and directly inspired the Porter's name.
West Sixth is continuing the beer's charitable legacy by establishing a new program to benefit local non-profits.
"From the very beginning, West Sixth has been not only about brewing great beer, but also about making a difference throughout the communities we're a part of,” founder Joe Kuosman said in a release from West Sixth.
"In order to live up to its name as the Pay it Forward Cocoa Porter, we are committed to giving $.50 per six-pack to a local non-profit doing great work in the area the beer was sold in," said founder Ben Self. "Those non-profits will be selected on a quarterly basis and will be chosen based on input from our fans and supporters."
The beer will be available in kegs and cans in September.
