Lexington, KY - From Sept. 9 -

For the second year in a row, the University of Kentucky's student-run radio station, WRFL, will present a 3-day festival highlighting experimental, progressive and under-the-radar music of various genres, as well as film and literary events, installation art projects, and the second annual BOOMSLANG CARNIVAL in the parking lot. Music will range from psychedelic to hip hop, folk to free jazz, garage rock to electro pop, with the line-up including modern composer Rhys Chatham; 1970s proto-punk pioneers Death; a solo show by Pete Kember (aka Sonic Boom), founding member of the highly influential psychedelic band Spacemen 3; Rangda, a psychedelic/free jazz supergroup
featuring Sir Richard Bishop, Ben Chasny and Chris Corsano; Thee American Revolution, a jangly garage pop band featuring Robert Schneider of Apples in Stereo fame; Dutch classical composer and lute player Jozef van Wissem; and 40
additional bands.
Boomslang events will also include a Saturday morning kid's music event hosted by Rock-n-Romp; a very special art installation at Land of Tomorrow Gallery featuring fashion made from recycled materials of Local First Lexington businesses; a special installment of a month-long scavenger hunt organized by local artist Ed Franklin; cookouts and special menus at local venues; the second annual Stars with Accents literary event at the Carnegie Center, featuring exclusive live readings of new, never-before heard works by authors C.E. Morgan, Crystal Wilkinson and Kathleen Driskell; official after-parties at Cosmic Charlie's, Bar Lexington and Al's Bar; and performances from Akron/Family, Wooden Shjips, Harlem, Ben Frost, Glass Candy, Wolf Eyes, The Seedy Seeds and many others.
With the help of funding from the Kentucky Arts Council, Boomslang has commissioned a handful of special shows by musicians from around Kentucky, many of whom have proposed a unique performance outside their typical realm.
