The Chamber Music Festival of Lexington will be celebrating its fifth season this summer, with concerts scheduled Friday and Saturday evening and for a Sunday matinee. Leading up to the weekend concerts will be master classes conducted by festival musicians and an open rehearsal by the ensemble, which are held at various locations downtown and are free to the public.
An original work for the 2011 festival is being written by Daniel Kellogg, who follows previous festival composer-in-residence honorees in preparing a world premiere for the Lexington audience. This component of the festival has gained national attention with the announcement of an arrangement with the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra whereby the two organizations will offer an opportunity for a single composer to write pieces for both a chamber ensemble and full orchestra.
Musicians this year include Lexington native Nathan Cole, Akiko Tarumoto, Priscilla Lee, Alessio Bax and Joseph Conyers.
