The Chevy Chase Inn, Euclid Avenue’s historic neighborhood bar, is scheduled to change hands on March 2, but the new owners will be familiar faces within the business district.
Kevin Heathcoat and Will Pieratt, owners of Bourbon n’ Toulouse, and Farmer’s Jewelry owner Bill Farmer, Jr. have teamed up to take possession of the bar with the intent of preserving the longstanding character of the local watering hole.

“It’s a classic old bar, and we are going to continue running it the same way it always has been,” said Heathcoat, who has operated nearby Bourbon n’ Toulouse with Pieratt for more than 10 years. “We never had an intention to own a bar, but we had always said when the time comes for the passing of the torch at , we would take it.”

Heathcoat said that the new management team plans to add craft beer to the mix at and to help promote the local craft beer market. The staff and the live music will remain the same, he said, and aside from some minor improvements such as updating the bathrooms and covering the back patio, no significant changes are planned.

“It’s a quintessential little gathering place, the kind that is unique to every shopping area throughout the country, but this is the one that’s most important to us because it’s right here,” said Bill Farmer, Jr., whose family jewelry business on Euclid dates back to the 1950s.

Farmer said he was enthusiastic about the opportunity to partner with Heathcoat and Pieratt and to sustain ’s “warm and cozy feel” in today’s age of constant change. At the same time, he said he hopes to update the bar in a responsible way that will encourage more new patrons to appreciate it.

“Everybody loves , but nobody loved it in particular,” Farmer said. “We have a lot of old friends over there; we just need a few new ones.”
