Fine Art Editions Lexington is pleased to announce the opening of Hallelujah: Road from Despair- a contemporary folk art exhibition featuring new work from artists LaVon Williams and Father Norman Fischer. The Lexington gallery opened in March of 2024, and Hallelujah: Road from Despair is the second exhibition to date. The gallery is located at 190 Jefferson St, in Lexington, KY.
LaVon Williams is a national artist and former basketball NCAA champion. He is a master carver and a self-proclaimed “urban folk artist.” Williams’ emotive figures inhabit dynamic compositions, combining the tactile physicality of carving with a confident sense of color and form. His newest series addressing mental health will be featured in this exhibition, including small-scale, never before seen portraits painted on wooden panels. The show will also feature Williams’ standalone carvings, and a series of impressions made from his work under the guidance of printmaker John Hockensmith.
Father Norman Fischer is the first priest of African-American and Filipino heritage in the Diocese of Lexington’s history, and currently serves as full-time chaplain of Lexington Catholic High School. He is also the parish priest of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Father Norman will be showing his latest series of acrylic paintings that explore spiritual images full of vibrant color and subtle movement. Father Norman’s work will also be shown with a series of his archival pigment impressions on museum paper created by Hockensmith.
The show will open Thursday, May 16th, 5:30PM - 8:00PM, and run through June 28th. The gallery is open to the public Tuesday-Saturday from 1:00PM - 5:30PM, or by appointment.
