Artist: ODEITH
Location: Lighthouse Ministries, 185 Elm Tree Lane
After a North Limestone mural by the artist ODEITH commissioned by PRHBTN was accidentally painted over in 2015, the organization Kentucky for Kentucky helped bring the artist back to Lexington to paint another mural later that year. The Portuguese artist tapped into his love for jazz figures when painting this 30-by-70-foot portrait of Louis Armstrong on the south facing wall of LightHouse Ministries, which provides safe and temporary housing for men in need. The mural’s close proximity to the Lyric Theatre, which in its heyday regularly hosted jazz greats – possibly even Armstrong himself – adds a layer of meaning to the iconic mural, which with its bright colors and textual reference to “What a Wonderful World,” a song made famous by Armstrong, intends to bring an uplifting message to its viewers.
