Wise Bird Cider, Lexington’s second craft cidery, opened in Distillery District’s old Pepper Rickhouse building in June. With indoor picnic-style seating for 130 guests, additional patio seating facing Town Branch Creek and a large in-house production facility, the cidery offers a variety of small-batch heritage ciders produced on-site in addition to a handful of guest ciders on tap. Owners Greta and Tim Wright, who recently moved to Lexington from the Washington, D.C. area to pursue their dreams of opening a cidery, worked with a handful of local designers on the design of the space, including local architects Clive Pohl and Jill Farfan of Pohl Rosa Pohl, artisan Nate Hensley of Nate Hensley Custom Studio and muralists from the Louisville-based mural group Often Seen Rarely Spoken. The cidery sources local as often as possible, and plans to plant a small orchard on-site in the fall.
