Under the direction of partners Will Arvin, Welsey Murry and Marianne Barnes (who also serves as master distiller), a new distillery called Castle & Key is slated to open in Millville, Kentucky, in early 2017. Housed in a historic 80-plus-acre site that operated as The Old Taylor Distillery Company from 1887 to 1972, the site has been transformed under the direction of EOP Architects with striking landscaping by Jon Carloftis. While Castle & Key’s bourbon and rye products won’t be ready for several years at least, Barnes is overseeing production of several botanical gins that should be on the market within the next year, with many of the herbs used for the gin production grown on-site.
Photographer Sarah Hoskins has been following the progress of the distillery’s renovations since August 2014. These photos provide a glimpse of the facility’s history and what the future holds for it as well – visit www.castleandkey.com for updates on the progress.
