The Smithsonian Channel's documentary TV series "Aerial America" will be giving Kentucky its close-up in an episode dedicated to the Bluegrass state.
The series, which is shot from a helicopter equipped with a state-of-the-art Cineflex HD camera system, will be visiting Kentucky starting April 27 to shoot across the state, filming the natural and manmade wonders of the region. The filming is part of one of the most expansive aerial television series ever produced.
From the famous Bluegrass region to the "greatest two minutes in sports" at Churchill Downs, "Aerial America" will show a bird's-eye view of many of these locations:
• The Kentucky Derby, from 500 ft. above
• The Kentucky Bourbon Trail
• The Wilderness Road
• The Capitol Building in Frankfort
• Fort Knox
• The home of Loretta Lynn
• The Corvette Museum
• The Cumberland Plateau
• Daniel Boone National Forest
• Federal Hill Mansion ("My Old Kentucky Home")
The locations above are tentatively scheduled to appear in the episode; some may be omitted during final editing.
