Lexington, Ky. - Better late than never. Lexington's new way-finding signs have begun appearing around the city.
Installation was delayed after the manufacturer, Architectural Graphics, Inc. (AGI) of Virginia Beach, Va. encountered time-consuming issues in the welding of brackets to the signs.
Work to install the new signs which direct tourists to points of interest around the city and Fayette County got underway on Wednesday, according to a press release from the office of Mayor Jim Newberry.
The first signs were erected along Versailles Road. Local contractor Arrow Electric, Inc. is installing the signs and expects to have at least a dozen in place by close of business on Friday. The first batch are being strategically placed to direct traffic to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.
Locations of signs now in place:
> Calumet on Versailles Rd out bound (Airport & Keenland) - 1
sign
> Newtown Pike inside New Circle Road ( 1 inbound, 1 outbound) - 2 signs
> Leestown Road at New Circle Road
- 2 signs
> Old Frankfort Pike at New Circle
- 1 sign, 2 faces
The signs feature an adaptation, in blue, of an oil painting of the famed racehorse "Lexington" by renowned equine artist Edward Troye.
98 of the signs were ordered. The remainder are to be erected within the next three months.
The Urban County Government spend $732,012.74 to design, produce and erect the signs.
