Lexington, Ky. - Suresh Kumar, Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, will be in Lexington on September 1 to address The Kentucky World Trade Center's World Trade Day at the Griffin Gate Marriott.
Kumar will focus his remarks on the Obama administration's National Export Initiative.
"I'm going to outline specifically what services are available to folks in Kentucky from the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service. We have people based there for the purpose of getting together with export communities and supporting aspirations to export worldwide," he told Business Lexington.
Roughly 95 percent of the world's consumers live outside of the United States, Kumar noted, "and it's extremely important that we engage with those customers if we are going to stay competitive worldwide."
Kentucky exports totaled $17.6 billion last year. The aim of the National Export Initiative is to double U.S. exports within five years.
