Lexington, KY --At Thursday night's annual Commerce Lexington dinner a familiar face was making the rounds, talking to city officials and local leaders and even hugging a few. It was former Mayor Teresa Isaac, appearing to many at the dinner to be in full-on campaign mode.
Asked after the event if she was planning on running to get her old office back, Isaac answered with a coy "possibly."
Isaac lost her first bid for reelection in 2006 handily to Mayor Jim Newberry who beat the incumbent by 26 points in a 49,726 to 29,755 final tally. Asked if she had a timeline for making up her mind to enter the race, she stated, "I'll let you know," before smiling and ending the conversation.
The race for Lexington's mayor is still 21 months away but a primary is just 15 months off, as questions over who might be seeking Lexington's highest office have been a hot topic of conversation. Mayor Newberry told reporters last week he still hasn't made up his mind on whether or not to seek a second term and plans on making and announcing his decision after he releases his proposed budget.
