The Lexington-based WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour is approaching a milestone 500th program, and with nearly as many domestic and international radio affiliates plus television and internet broadcasts, the program has won a role among the city's most important marketing tools.
"It's amazing that millions and millions of people around the world are tuning into a show that's produced here in Lexington, Kentucky, and they're hearing WoodSongs 'brought to you from the historic Kentucky Theater in downtown Lexington, Kentucky,'" said David Lord, president of the Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau. "When you hear that, it's something that's priceless. We could never afford that kind of exposure, to buy that kind of recognition around the world for a product that is so authentic to this area."
The hour-long weekly Americana music show, streamed live on the Web and taped for broadcast before an often standing-room-only theater audience, places Lexington on a short-list of cities across the United States hosting internationally recognized live radio music programming.
