What is your idea of a perfect evening?
Hitting the Kentucky Power Ball for a couple hundred million and then spending it all in the same night.
What is one of your favorite movies and why?
Big Trouble Little China. It was directed by a Kentuckian- John Carpenter. It’s Kurt Russell being Kurt Russell before he was Kurt Russell. It has magic, crazy magic. It represents a time when blue jeans, a screen printed A frame, some ‘aw shucks’ confidence and a knife was all you needed. Plus it was all based on a true story that happened in Henderson, Kentucky.
Do you have a lucky charm or a lucky number? What about it brings you luck?
I like 7s and 5s, that’s a birthday thing, and I grew up on Route 57. I notice those numbers. I’m lucky in general. My lucky charms are being optimistic and a petrified no-count stallion leg I wear around my neck. It seems good things come to me like seeing rainbows, coming across stocked up vintage Ale8 vending machines, and free 71 Chevy Pick Up Trucks when I’m being positive about life and people.
What do you consider your top accomplishment so far?
My greatest accomplishment so far and will always be marrying Sarah Wylie Ammerman. Together we have a new accomplishment-- Baby Otis is on the scene and straight representing the NoLi. The Boy's getting ink and he hasn't even rolled over yet. Hell Yeah.
What is your favorite iconic building in Lexington?
There are so many great buildings in Lexington. I love the Prajna built Avis Office at 1059 South Broadway. Those guys are dope. I’m a sucker for 1880-1928 North Lexington built buildings. I’m in love with: The South Eastern Greyhound Building- 105 W. Loudon Ave., The Wood Energy Warehouse- 138 E. Loudon Ave., The Patterson Place- 199 E. Loudon Ave.
Where is your favorite spot to get out in nature when the weather is great?
I tube the Elkhorn Creek as much as possible. I love it. Tubing the Elkhorn is perfectly Kentucky on every level. I have over 30 tubes, so I’m the official unofficial tube outfitter for the Bluegrass Region. I’m retiring in a couple months, so I can then become the official official tube outfitter of the Bluegrass Region, and tube the Elkhorn every Kentucky Summer Day.
Pleased to Meet You writer Celeste Lewis is out there getting Lexingtonians, from long-timers to new arrivals, to know one another a little better by gently probing their personal interests, recollections, tastes and aspirations.
