Lexington, KY - The Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau (LCVB) officially cut the ribbon on its a new Lexington Visitors Center inside Victorian Square Wednesday.
Across from Triangle Park on Main Street, the 1,500 square foot storefront has pictures and artifacts highlighting some of the unique aspects of the Bluegrass region.
One wall is adorn with a bourbon sniffing bar, allowing visitors to take a whiff of area whiskeys like Lexington’s Town Branch Bourbon, Woodford Reserve, Four Roses and others. Another wall has the appearance of a barn including a working barn door from Faraway Farm, the home of racing greats Man O’ War and War Admiral.
According to the LCVB, the new center is split into five main areas featuring information on horse attractions; Bourbons of the Bluegrass; historic attractions; 'Explore My Lex', dedicated to art, music and cultural events; and Beyond Grits, an area devoted to regional cuisine, unique restaurants and our the winery and craft brewery movement.
The Bureau had spent the last 18-years on Vine Street on the opposite end of downtown. Current LCVB President Jim Browder credited his predecessor David Lord with negotiating a single year’s lease in his final year on the job, so the new leader could decide if Bureau should locate elsewhere
Earlier this year the Vine Street location – that also housed the LCVB’s offices – shut down and a temporary visitors center was open near the new one in Victorian Square.
The LCVB offices are now located away from the visitors center in the Lexington Financial Center while the center, which aims to interact directly with tourists is now centrally located across from the Lexington Center, home of the vast majority of the city’s conventions.
