Lexington, KY – Lexington Mayor Jim Gray announced Tuesday night that he will be seeking reelection in 2014.
“Many people have asked me, 'so Jim what are you gonna do in a couple of years'” said Gray at an event held at Buster’s in the Distillery District for supporters and volunteers who worked on his 2010 campaign. “Well, actually, I’m here to tell you I love getting things done, tackling tough problems, and I want to stay on the job, so I’m running for re-election in 2014!”
Gray held his victory party at Buster's two years ago after defeating incumbent mayor Jim Newberry.
“A whole lot has changed in two years, but I always believed in one thing: when people feel better about their city, they will feel better about themselves. And we are doing just that. We are onto something.” said Mayor Gray
In 2010 Gray had served four years as the city’s vice mayor, his first elected office, and unseated the first term Newberry, 53 percent to 47 percent. A difference of 5,296 votes.
This will be Gray’s third campaign for the office he currently holds. Previous to garnering the most votes in the 2006 Urban County Council race to become vice mayor, Gray unsuccessfully sought to be mayor in 2002 losing in the primary to Teresa Isaac and Scott Crosbie, both of whom endorsed Gray in 2010.
