Lexington, KY - Budget cuts at the Department of Defense have resulted in reduced funding for military body armor. And an economic casualty is being felt in Lexington.
Body armor manufacturer Ceradyne will lay off 93 employees at its Lexington plant, according to a report in the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Notice of the layoff was filed by parent company 3M under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
Fayette County Judge-Executive Jon Larson received a package concerning the layoffs late Monday, the report said.
According to Larson, the information he received indicated that employees were notified of the layoff Sunday and Monday with an expected date of separation set for June 10.
Severance packages are being provided, the report said.
