Lexington, KY - A glitch in American Airlines' computer reservation system has forced the carrier to ground all flights until at least "later this afternoon."
The Dallas-based airline began experiencing computer problems shortly after noon eastern time according to its Twitter page. A posting on the company's website said all flights would be grounded until at least 5 eastern, but shortly after 3:30, that time expectation had been removed from the site.
"If your travel plans are flexible, there will be no charge if you would like to change your reservation and we will provide full refunds if your travel plans are not flexible. However, we are unable to make changes to current travel plans until we have resolved this issue," the airline's website states.
According to Blue Grass Airport spokesperson Amy Caudill, four American Airlines flights have been canceled so far today. Those affected include a flight to Dallas/Fort Worth at 5:45, another inbound from the same airport at 5:15 and flights to and from Chicago's O'Hare at 6:18 (arriving) and 6:45 (outbound). There is no listed status for two inbound flights scheduled for later tonight from Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth.
